I would love to be able to be able to apply a conditional formatting template to any sheet I wished - much like a design theme in Office 365. And - if I change a rule, it would change it for all the sheets using that template. Can you imagine? How wonderful!
This would be insanely helpful. I am about to have to recreate the same set of 6 rules 13 times over because of this...
I am a heavy user of Conditional Formatting for many purposes. The most powerful way I use it (to maintain schedule accuracy) is as an error checking mechanism (e.g.: format Start date in red if it's in the past but the Status value indicates that the task is still active). So I have MANY rules that have become more and more complex as I continue to evolve them over time.
I create my own custom sheet templates primarily so I can apply those rules when spinning up new project plans. But whenever I decide to change any rules, I have to go back and manually update them in all of my existing Smartsheets individually. This can take a lot of time because I manage many projects at once.
I'd love to be able to save my Conditional Formatting scheme as sort of a standalone template that can be applied to existing projects as well as new ones. I have no idea if it's feasible but had to ask :)
Absolutely would love this feature!
This is a great idea! Also, I would like to be able to change the color options (similar to dashboards).
Hello, I use a lot of conditional formatting logics across multiple similar sheets. As we make incremental changes, I often have to completely tear out individual conditionals and then rebuild them. If there are two changes/sheet and we have 15 sheets, I'm suddenly deleting 30 changes, which requires finding the old conditional in the long list, carefully deleting it, modifying the column type, then rebuilding the logic. It would be great if I could make the change once then "copy/paste" the relevant formatting rules to all the new spreadsheets.

If you're open to using a browser extension for this, we have a solution.

it would be nice if these formatting rules were exposed over the API, but the browser extension provides many efficiencies while Smartsheet works on a solution.
I reuse a lot of conditional formatting rules across multiple sheets. Do do something as relatively simple as make positive numbers green, negative numbers red, and 0 yellow, I have to create three separate rules for EACH COLUMN.
I should be able to create centralized formatting rule, and be able to designate that rule across any column I identify, no matter what sheet I'm in.
Moreover, if I have already created a whole set of rules in one sheet, I should be able to export those rules and import them to any other sheet.
