Limit check boxes to portion of a column?

I don't think it is possible but always good to ask. Is there a way to limit the checkboxes in a column to select rows? I have a section where I need checkboxes but not for the entire sheet. If this is not possible, is there a formula to clear the unused checkboxes?

You can put some kind of text (I usually just use a period) in the cells you don't want the checkboxes displayed in and then change the text color to match the background color.
