Using a barcode scanner in Smartsheet

Hello,

I am using Smartsheet for an inventory management system to monitor quantities of spare parts in a parts cage. I plan on using a handheld scanner that will be communicating with the computer.

Is it possible to have this scanner communicate to Smartsheet without having to use the Smartsheet mobile app as the scanner?

From my knowledge no, there would be no way for the scanner to know you're logged into SMAR. Maybe someone has built it but I have not seen it personally.

Is the scanner wirelessly posting text entries to the computer? In other words is it acting as a keyboard? If so you could just open Smartsheet on the computer, position your cursor in the first row in the column for barcodes, and start scanning. Most handheld scanners that operate this way include a CRLF which will move you down to the next row.

If instead the scanner is running its own OS, many of those are Android and you may be able to load the mobile app onto the scanner itself.
