How can I automate the process of giving indented lines a different color?
For example, the top level should be gray, the second light gray, etc.

as this is there german part of the community, I'll keep it short.
Try something like this in a an additional helper column: =COUNT(ANCESTORS([Task Name]@row)). [Task Name] = your primary column. Then use conditional formatting.
