Getting Outlook to Open After Clicking Email Hyperlink in Dashboard

Hello!

I am making a dashboard and am using a Rich Text Widget to include relevant contact email addresses. All of the emails I included appear as hyperlinks in the Dashboard and the actual links include "mailto:" followed by the intended email address.

The formatting is correct, however when I click on the hyperlinks Outlook does not open. Does Smartsheet not have this feature or am I missing something?

Thanks for your help!

    Hi,

I just tested this out on Chrome (Ubuntu) and Safari (MacOS) and I can open "mailto" URLs on a dashboard with the Rich Text Widget.

Can you find a website with a "mailto" URL on the page, click it, and confirm that Outlook correctly opens up on your browser when you're not using SmartSheet. Typically you can find these on websites at the bottom of the page in the "contact us" sections.

Which browser and operating system are you using?

If you're using Windows, you can try these steps:

    • Go to Settings > Apps > Default Apps.
    • Scroll down to Email.
    • Make sure Outlook is selected as the default email app.

Hi @SSFeatures thanks for the response!

I am Microsoft Edge on a Windows computer. I went to Settings and cannot find the menu you are referring to.

Below is what I see in my Settings. Choosing Outlook as the default Email app is not an option.

    Oops, sorry for the confusion!

Instead of going to your SmartSheet settings, I meant going to your Windows settings to confirm that your Windows computer is setup to open Outlook when you click on "mailto" URLs.

For example, these are what the settings look like on my Windows laptop:

You can also verify that this works by clicking on a "mailto" URL that is not within the SmartSheet app. I basically want to confirm whether or not the problem is in SmartSheet, your browser's configuration, or your computer's configuration.
