How to compare 2 dates automatically (no helper column)

Hi all,

I need to compare 2 dates in 2 different columns. I would like to compare the "deliver by date" to the "appointment date"; when the appointment date is occurring after the deliver by date, I would like to highlight this in red.

I don't want to add a helper column because that defeats the purpose of me setting this up in conditional formatting.

Any help is appreciated.

I don't think it is possible without a helper column. Why does the helper column defeat the purpose if it yields the result you want?

For this purpose, I'd like to use this; it will only work if it is 100% automated. The helper column does nothing for me because it is no different from me manually turning the rows red. Maybe I'm thinking of the helper column incorrectly?
