Using formulas with cells linked to other sheets

I am pulling numbers from separate sheets into a common sheet. In this common sheet, I would like to subtract one cell from the other. Is this possible? I keep getting error messages, # INVALID OPERATION and #INVALID VALUE. I have checked that the column type is Text/Number back to the original sheet.

Attach is a screenshot of what I am trying to do with the formulas I have tried. Any help would be appreciated.

    hi @JonBrunk_GMC,

    is the formula VALUE needed in 2nd row? those are only 2 numbers with column marked as currency.

    I just tested with linked cells values by adding those and it works pretty fine with my case so you should not have this error at all.

    the column types are text?

    @JonBrunk_GMC,

    What happens if you use VALUE() in the first row where the formula is?

  • DKazatsky2,

    The error with the first row is # INVALID OPERATION. When I add the VALUE() to the same operation I get the #INVALID VALUE error.

    I believe it has to be a formatting issue. But beside checking that all the columns are set to text/number I am unsure how to check.

    Thanks,

    Any other suggestions?

    Jon

  • kowal,

    The two rows represent my two attempts to do a math calculation with information provided from another sheet.

    I am thinking now it is an issue with the format of the cells. Not sure how to check the formatting of an individual cell. I have checked the column formating.

    Thanks, Jon
