formula to generate unique ID for this scenario
Hello all,
So I am trying to work out how to do a formula to auto generate a sequential ID starting from row 18 like in the screenshot example. When a form is completed/submitted it will update each row automatically so was hoping also that the formula will update accordingly when the form is submitted and saved in reach row
Making the "Unique ID" column an Auto Number is not going to work because I have some parent/child rows set up where I do not need a unique number generated, unless of course theres some clever way to skip those types of rows, which is why I am thinking a formula is better approach.
Appreciated thanks

Although you may not need those rows to have the auto number, is there any reason why it would make an issue. It is definitely the simplest way.
Anything else will create complexity and involve the kind of column formulas that depending on the size of your sheet could really slow things down.

Hi thanks for your response, fair point and that would be ideal to avoid complexity.
As I'm still designing and tweaking the sheet, making the Unique ID column an auto number puts the ID's in a random order due to me deleting or moving around rows, so got fed up with trying to find a way of resetting it to start again from EX0001, EX0002 and have it in some logical sequence.

in fact now it's applied the aut number which I can accept and leave as is, I can't remove the ID from specific rows, is there a way of doing this since these rows are not relevant to have a unique ID?
Thanks
