Enhance Row Collapse Functionality for Improved Project Management

Our team manages a large number of projects on a single Smartsheet, with each project containing multiple child rows to track weekly progress and phases. This results in an extremely long sheet, making it challenging to navigate and manage efficiently. Our management prefers to have all projects and phases listed on one page, as we select a handful of projects to discuss during our weekly meetings.

Currently, we can save the view with rows collapsed, but this functionality is lost when an engineer applies a filter to view only their own projects. The rows automatically expand, cluttering the page for everyone. We propose the following enhancements to improve the usability and efficiency of Smartsheet:

  1. Persistent Row Collapse State: Allow rows to remain collapsed when switching between no filter and a filter, and vice versa. This would ensure that the collapsed state is preserved regardless of the filtering applied.
  2. Independent Row Collapse Views: Enable collapsing or uncollapsing rows to be a user-specific action that does not affect how others see the sheet. This way, if an engineer expands their rows, it does not impact the view for other users. Similarly, when our leadership reviews the sheet, they can have all rows collapsed for a cleaner overview and expand rows only when needed.

Implementing these features would greatly enhance our ability to manage and review projects efficiently, reducing clutter and improving the overall user experience. While the first option seems the easiest to implement, ideally, both enhancements would be valuable additions to Smartsheet.

Thank you for considering our suggestion. We believe these changes would benefit many users who manage large and complex project sheets.
