Linking to another sheet and formula, automation not working

I have a coordination sheet that I have a formula set up to checkmark a column and then an automation to record a date. Works great! However, when I try to link the trigger cell from another sheet, it only checkmarks the box and does NOT record a date.

Why does it complete the checkmark formula, but does not complete the "Record the Date" automation?

You would set your trigger to be date based. Then click on "Run Once" and change it to "Custom". That will allow you to set it to run every 1 day (daily). I do this in easily 80% of the sheets I create if not more, so I do know that setting it this way should work.

Automations cannot be triggered by cells containing cell links or cross sheet references. You would need to set your trigger to run daily and use a condition of the box being checked and the date column being blank.

Thank you for answering, but I am still having trouble getting the automation to work. I have the automation set and when I test it, it works great. However, I can't it to update without running the test myself. Any suggestions?

The help tools tells me that I cannot use the "Daily Trigger" to record a date. Currently my trigger is set to "When Triggered".
