  • My problem is that I can't send to a contact in a cell. I have a sheet with a column that is named "Contact" the same as above and it stores an email address, but even with permissions turned to unrestricted on the automations, it won't appear in the list for "Send to contacts in a cell". The only thing that shows up is the "modified by" column and that's no use to me because the automation is to send a customer update based on the value of the contact cell, not who modified the row creating the trigger.

It looks like the issue might be related to the column type. For Smartsheet to recognize a column for sending automation emails, it must be a "Contact List" column type.

Can you try changing your column property to "Contact List" instead of a text/number column? Once it's set as a Contact List, Smartsheet should allow you to select it in the "Send to contacts in a cell" automation.

As of now, Smartsheet does not support sending automation emails to custom text fields storing email addresses—it only works with contact-type columns.

Let me know if this helps! 😊
