Automated Workflow Not Updating Cell
Program Managers are required to submit updates on the progress of a program development every two weeks, across Stages 1, 2, and 3. Ultimately, they will submit multiple updates while a program is at any one of these stages.
I have Sheet 1 that collects the update from the Program Manager via a form submission. One of the questions on the form is [Program Code].
Sheet 1 has a [Status] column that returns the status of the program with that [Program Code] from Sheet 2.
There is another column [H-Status (Number)] in Sheet 1 that extracts the number of the stage indicated in that [Status]—-for example, if [Status] is "Stage 2", the second column returns "2".
Since the status updates throughout the program development process in Sheet 2, rather than asking the Program Manager to indicate the stage in the form, I want to automatically put the stage in the [Stage] column, using the value in [H-Status (Stage)]. The sheet will ultimately have a full collection of all Program Manager updates through the program development process, even if the [Status] updates. To do this, I set up an automated workflow that runs when a new row is added (an update is provide via a new form submission) and [Created] is any value, to change the value of [Stage] to 1, for example, if [H-Status (Number)] is 1, or to 2, if [H-Status (Number)] is 2, or to 3, if [H-Status (Number)] is 3. To clarify,
I used the automated workflow to change the value because [Status] and [H-Status (Stage)] are going to change through the program development process, and I want to make sure [Stage] doesn't change so I know in which stage the Program Manager submitted the update.
However, when I set up this automated workflow, test by submitting a new form, the new row appears on the sheet, but [Stage] is not update. [Status] shows "Stage 2", and [H-Status (Number)] shows "2", but [Stage] is blank.
I know the work flow is triggered because I tested with an "Otherwise", to change the value of [Stage] to "–" and it changed the value of [Stage] in every row to "–".
What am I missing?

This looks good. I am not seeing an errors from my end. The only thing I can think of, as this has happened to me before was there was an internal bug. It worked when I forced it run but it wasn't triggering. I deleted the automation out, saved the sheet and got out of Smartsheet. I went back in, recreated the automation, and it ran. sometimes there can be a delay when there is multiple conditions. Sometimes it delays to ensure you do not make any changes as well.
Another thing is one automation I did would take 20 min or so to trigger….. How long have you waited to see if it would trigger? An hour? over night?
Sometimes Smartsheet glitches. Hope this helps.
