copy paste and predecessors rows

Hi

i built sheets with predecessors and duration columns to create logistics between rows. it always works well until some people start to work with the sheets and i don't understand the issue.

when I do a copy paste of a row, it copy the same date in the coumn "date"

BUT, when some other people do the same copy/paste, the date change to the previous date…

any idea why the copy/paste does not do the same between me and others? i have the admin and owner access and the others have editor access. we tried on edge and chrome browsers.

thank you

If there's no contradictions within the data and procedures, than I recommend submitting a new case to customer support.

They will have you start with:

    clear your cache,

updated your browser/use the desktop version,

"Save as new" with the sheet you're having problems with and see if the new one is working properly,

and verify user permissions for the actions required.

hi @Julien Lopez what do you mean by copy row? you cope it from somewhere else?

where is the Date in column Date being taken from ?

  • Hi @kowal

i simply copy paste a row already existing in the sheet to duplicate it. ex: i copy row# 2 to have a second row identical.

the date is set on the top of the column and the Duration and Predecessors columns manage the rest of the dates in the column.

so if a change the 2 first rows (3-feb-2025), the rest of the column will update. if I want a third row dated on 3-feb-2025 (or any other date) I simply copy/paste the appropriate row.

My issue is I see people that the copy and paste of the row (3-feb-2025) change the date (for 2-feb-2025). But it should stay the same date.

hi @Julien Lopez I am somehow lost in this logic so maybe someone else in community can help with it.

    Hello @Julien Lopez

Have you checked the format that the date is being copied from?

Verify that the formatting on the source document of all employees are the same format as yours.

Do the people copying data into this sheet also have admin permissions or above?

  • Hi @MichaelTCA

the other people doing the copy/paste have editor access. we all work on the same sheet so the date format is the same for all.

    @Julien Lopez

So the consistency should be the same. All data is coming from the same source? All data is being entered in the same target?

1 other thing, based on the pictures that you originally posted, the date columns are locked. Users with editor permissons cannot edit locked columns.

What does your date column represent?

What date column are they pulling from?

If there's an assignment/submission date, they may be using the wrong one.

Are the durations tied to that date shown in your example?

Where's the final dates that the durations will be applied to?

  • @MichaelTCA

yes, the column is locked cause it should not be changed.

the column represent the date a task need to be scheduled. it is a date/time column type (no formulas)

the duration is always 1d (the column is hide)

The problem is when I do a copy/paste of the row, the date in the copied row remains the same. but when it is another person (for now, the issue was seen with 3 persons), the date changes (3-feb-2025 become 2-feb-2025). the is not formulas applied to this column and no references.
