Recommendations for Initiating Approval Workflow

I am building an approval worflow with multiple steps. Since I will have the status columns locked, and while I am still determining if I can automate the start of the workflow, I am looking for recommendations on how the person managing the sheet can manually start the workflow.

For example, she could click a checkbox that triggers the start of the automated workflow, but I am concerned she might accidently click the wrong box.

What other ways have others manually triggered a workflow?

When a line is added to the sheet have the automation send an update request to the person you want to start the automation. They could update from there and not have to enter the sheet.
