Notifying When Column Changes AND What Change Occurred

I know I can trigger an automated workflow if a column(s) changes, but can I include in the notification what the most recent value what and what the new value is and date it was changed (and even more awesome would be who made the change)?

Example:

Column A, a multiselect dropdown, had Option 1 and 4 selected. It was changed to now be Option 1, 3, and 4.

When Column A changes, it triggers the automated workflow (alert someone) that Column A changed, and include

  • Old Value (Option 1 and 4)
  • New Value (Options 1, 3, and 4)
  • Date Changed
  • Changed by ____

    Hello, aschneiderheinze1025.

As far as I know, there is no possible way to do this using Automations. You would have to manually view or download the activity log for when the date of the change occurred to research what it changed from and changed to. However, only Owners and Admins can export/download the log. Anyone with the Editor permission can only view it, but Commenters and Viewers cannot access the Activity Log.

Track changes with the activity log

    Hope this helps.

@aschneiderheinze1025 If you were able to determine which specific fields are of highest concern, you could setup an Automation to trigger when any of those fields changed. And you could set up the automation to include the current value in selected fields and include Modified and Modified By columns.

But if your goal is to limit changes, then maybe you should determine if locking rows or columns could be an option. Or changing permissions.
