Enable Clickable Hyperinks in Smartsheet Forms (Android Mobile App)

Hello Smartsheet Community,

We've observed that hyperlinks included in the "Form Description" and "Helper Text" fields of Smartsheet forms are not functional within the mobile app. While these links operate correctly on desktop browsers, tapping them in the mobile app yields no response.

This limitation significantly affects our field teams, who rely on mobile devices to access forms. We often embed hyperlinks to protocols, instructional videos, and other essential resources within these fields to provide immediate guidance. The inability to access these links directly from the app hampers efficiency and user experience.

Given the increasing reliance on mobile solutions, I request that Smartsheet consider enhancing the mobile app to support clickable hyperlinks within form descriptions and helper texts. This improvement would greatly benefit users who depend on mobile access for their workflows.

I don't know if this is 'by design' or an issue that hasn't been flagged yet; either way, it needs an update to functionality.

Thank you for considering this enhancement. We look forward to any updates on this matter.

Thanks

The above issue has caused many problems to our users. An update would be great.

  • Hi @B.Wats & @AliceVBH

I've tested on my iPhone and can confirm that hyperlinks in Forms should open, even if they're being clicked on from the Smartsheet app.

    Can you clarify the following:

    • Your Smartsheet account type (.com / .eu / or .gov)
    • Type of Mobile device
    • Smartsheet App version
    • Where the links are leading to (e.g. a website, youtube, Smartsheet item, so on)

    Thanks!
    Genevieve

    Hi Genevieve,

For us they work on iPhone but not on android (tested on various iPhones and a couple of Android devices).

We're a .com account, I have version 25.2.0.246 of the app. I would need to check with my colleagues for their version. In all instances the text hyperlink looked and worked like one on iPhones and looked like plain text and did not work on Android.

Links work from our Android devices if they display the raw URL (as long as there is no full stop added at the end if they are at the end of a sentence).

    Thank you!

    Kind Regards,

    Alice

In terms of what the link leads to, it doesn't seem to make a difference. The issue manifests only if we use a text hyperlink instead of the naked URL.

    Thank you

  • Hi @AliceVBH, thanks for clarifying!

This is not expected - hyperlinks in forms should work whether you are on an Android or iOS. It's very helpful that 6 users have voted on this post to show it happens across more than one device!

***Please create support tickets showing the behaviour.

Support will need the same information requested above, along with the Form URL (if you're willing to share) or a screen capture showing where the hyperlink should be, and what it looks like in your Androids. They can then escalate this and troubleshoot it in a private channel where you can share these details.

    Thank you!
    Genevieve
