One column to show results of formula OR free text entry

Any ideas hereβ¦.?!
In my sheet, I'm parsing the End Date column to isolate the Year & Quarter and then combining the Year & Quarter into a Delivery Year-Quarter that we use for grouping in a report. But of course, we have rows that we don't know the dates beyond the Year & Quarter or even just the Year.
Looking to see if ideas on flexibility of not disrupting the formulas when proper dates entered but also being able to add in a free text year or year-quarter where not entered & having all display nicely in 1 Delivery Year-Quarter column?
e.g. where Delivery Year-Quarter has #INVALID DATA TYPE want to free text entry without losing formulaβ¦

@nmyles this use case needs an override column. You basically have your formula result in one column as well as an override column for the free entry. You can then either add a result column to pick the override when it exists and the formula when it doesnt OR you can build this into your formula to use the override value BEFORE your formula.
