Preserving information

Hi,

I am that new to SmartSheet I am not sure what question I am trying to ask, so let's say I have a project with a number of Workpackages:

• WP 1 Lead is A, starting 1st Jan
• A resigns from WP1 1st June, takes over WP2 Lead
• B takes over WP1 Lead 1st July

I want to capture this in the minimum amount of effort, so using date stamps etc. I also want to preserve historical information (eg. at the end of the Project to know who was WP Lead on a given date or what was A responsible for and when etc)

If SmartSheet can't do this, great. I'll look elsewhere and you have saved me a lot of time 😊

If SmartSheet can, is there a video or better still a template I can copy and play with to understand the mechanics?

I'm going to make some assumptions here so please excuse me if I'm steering you in the wrong direction. I'd need to see a screenshot of your sheet and how it's organized to better answer your question. If you can provide that, then great.

I'm assuming you are constructing a project schedule and are in Gantt view. If so - duplicate the WP 1 line and adjust the start and finish dates so that the work package has a segment for each lead change. I.E. WP1 would have a WP1.1 (or WP1.A) for the A lead that is managing 1/1 - 6/1 and then the remainder of the the work package WP1.2 (or WP1.B) for the B lead. This will also let you 'split' the task to enable the B lead to start in July rather than pick up in June when lead A transfers to WP2.
