Inconsistency between "Created by" field in Approval email message and Approval Form message

Inconsistency between "Created by" field in Approval email message and Approval Form message.

We have a "Created By"-typed field called "Submitter" and we included the Submitter field in an Approval flow automation message.

In the approval email notification message (under the "Details" in the email body,) the "Submitter" value is the email address of the user (ie, the email address of the user that created the record.)

However, in the Approval Form (when you click on "Open Request"), the "Submitter" value is the user's name (ie, the name of the user that created the record.)

Is this the intended behavior? Is there some way to make this consistent?

thanks.

Hi @Tommi, unfortunately, I believe that this is the intended behavior and their currently isn't a way to make this consistent. I agree that this is confusing and inconsistent.

I recommend filing a Product Feedback Request, so that other people can upvote it. Ideally, we would be able to change the automation message to use the user's name next to the email address.

    Best!

Could it be that, "created by" column will always reflect the user email.

However, when it shows up in approval request, it will show the name as per the approver contact list.

Meaning, the created by column will capture John.smith@abc.com.
But the approval request, will show "John Smith" as it is recorded in the approver contact list as such?

    Thanks @Vivien Chong … That's a good point.

What's consistent is that wherever the {{Submitter}} notation is used in the body of the message, the email address is always rendered.

What's inconsistent is when the Submitter field is included in the message details.

In the Approval Request email sent to the approver, the field is rendered as the submitter's email address.
In the Approval Request form, it is rendered as the submitter's name. How & why it renders as a name in this case (and not in the other) I do not know, but it is confusing to the approver.
