NEW! Modern chart styling and readability enhancements

Hi Community!

This update introduces a series of styling and readability improvements to the chart widget, offering a more modern and polished visual experience across your dashboard. Enhancements include better spacing, improved text overflow handling, refined display of negative values, custom series label size and more.

Dashboard editors may need to make adjustments, such as resizing charts or repositioning legends, to fully take advantage of these improvements.

Please note, this release will roll out in phases. A small percentage of you will get access first, with more added gradually over the coming days. We expect all users to have access by next week.

@Jason DelValle What is your suggestion for when a line chart that extends the full width of the dashboard only shows one data label on the horizontal axis?

I only had 12 labels (one for each month) to begin with, but the new formatting hides all but one (some charts with the same labels show 2 or 3, but it is not consistent), and I can't make the charts any wider.

Hi @Paul Newcome, thank you for the message. The chart update does cause axis labels to skip over if it deems there isn't enough room to show all. But if your chart is as wide as the dashboard and only have 12 values, I'm surprised that it is showing only 1 label. We would like to investigate this further. The addition of decimals without the ability to round to a whole number is a big miss. This makes charts look unprofessional and messy. Our users are not happy with this change and we have so many, using a workaround to no recreate our metrics as percentages then apply as values is not an option. Feedback given via early adopters and enhancement requests already done. Hoping SS sees this as something they need to fix quickly.

Good Morning, I too am frustrated with the inability to edit the 2 decimal place percentages- can this be added or restored to the previous setting? It has automatically updated all of my dashboards. Additionally, the product news shows percentages outside of the pie wedges, not sure how to get this setting.

Hello everyone, thank you for your feedback and patience! I wanted to share a few updates that we have made:

On pie and donut charts, labels that are %s have been reset to show whole numbers.
Legends no longer display the value. This should help with the other issue of legend items being truncated behind "+N more", but we're also thinking about a more direct solution for that issue.
Custom font size setting now works with multi-widget editing. You can select multiple widgets at a time and set the font size (found in Series).

Any thoughts on how to fix getting all the value labels to show?

It's working fine on the first widget showing all 3 value on the semicircle. But on the second widget, I have 4 tasks that are In Progress yet there is no value showing on the semicircle. Even dropping the font down to 8 doesn't work. It's hit or miss across all my dashboards on getting all 3 values to show.

@Rashmi Shekhar Do we know if there are any plans to fix the issue with the legends on widgets that have an interaction set? If you have a chart set to take a user to a report when they click it, clicking the legend also takes them to the report. This means that we will never be able to see the full legend if it is forced to collapse and we have an interaction set.

Hi all - I have a question about the series fill updates for line charts: is there any way to go back to the solid color fill version when using a line chart?

I understand that it is cleaner for some users to have this ombre aesthetic to layer multiple lines and fills. However, my chart only needs the green line to be filled and the ombre gets cut off because we don't include data for months that haven't occurred yet.

I just want to piggyback on what everyone else is saying I guess.

This ruined thousands of my dashboards across multiple portfolios. What kind of QA was done here? Are you planning to revert or fix?

Being able to resize the font for line charts is something I've wanted for a while, great improvement!

I do wish this was available for all chart types. As with others in the comments, I now have several charts that do not show values because there's too much data to fit it all. Being able to pick the font size, and even the label alignment (centered, outside end, etc.) would help solve a lot of these issues.

@melissalk Just a thought on your chart. When in the series tab you click to always show value

Sometimes I have the issue where this is NOT applied to all series because I've accidentally clicked it off, I was editing a series colour before I clicked the button etc.

Just something to double check that it is for ALL

Ooops in this case - I missed one through editing or clicking to collapse a dropdown etc.
