Adding Current Month Data To Dashboard and Metric Widgets

Hello Community,

1st Question: I am creating a dashboard for our compliance statistics. I have built out a dashboard calculation sheet based off other sheets as seen in the image below. I am looking to add only the current months lable and associated data to my dashboard to keep it clean.

2nd Question: I also have the other metrics listed on the dashboard. I need to diplay them all. When using the metric widget is looks very messy and spread out due to labels etc. Is there a better approach?

Note: There are about 7 more locations not in the screenshot.

Question 1

Your Header/Description 3 looks to be the only place with the month in and that is a text field. Smartsheet won't know that "July 2025" is the current month. It would know that 7/1/25 is in the current month. Could you make that column a date column and call it "Month starting", then input the first of each month? That way you can use the date to see if the row is for the current month.

If you cannot change this column, you could add another column that creates a date from the text entered in the text field. But that would require a formula to convert "July 2025" into "DATE(2025,01,07)" and is at risk if someone types the date in slightly differently.

The formula would be:

=DATE(VALUE(RIGHT([Headers/Descriptions 3]@row , 4)), VALUE(IF(LEFT([Headers/Descriptions 3]@row , 3) = "Jul", "7", IF(LEFT([Headers/Descriptions 3]@row , 3) = "Aug", "8"))), 1)

With the other 10 months added to the IF statement, like this:

=DATE(VALUE(RIGHT([Headers/Descriptions 3]@row , 4)), VALUE(IF(LEFT([Headers/Descriptions 3]@row , 3) = "Jul", "7", IF(LEFT([Headers/Descriptions 3]@row , 3) = "Aug", "8", IF(LEFT([Headers/Descriptions 3]@row , 3) = "Sep", "9")))), 1)

Question 2

To save space, try to put all the data in one widget not multiple widgets (if you haven't already). There is a minimum distance between widgets.

You can edit the widget to change the layout - labels and data can be on one line horizontally (side by side) - which would reduce the height of the widget. Click on the three dots at the top right of the widget and select edit. Then change the Layout using the page on the right.

You can also change the font size. In edit mode, just click on the text and a menu will appear.

For the first question, I added a helper column, "This Month" with the following formula;

The first IF is to check if [Headers/Descriptions 3] is blank.
If not, the second ( ) with 12 IFs gets the month number 1 to 12 from the [Headers/Descriptions 3]'s cell value. Lastly, the third = MONTH(TODAY()))) checks if the month number matches the current month.
As the helper column is a checkbox, if true, it gets checked.

Using the helper column as one of the filters, I created a report as shown at the top of the dashboard image below.

(I also added a [Is Parent] checkbox helper column to show the row as well.

Regarding the second question, I used reports to display only the columns I want.

When you created the first report, you can copy the report to duplicate reports with diffrent columns to show.
