Future of native Discussion/Comments/Chat or do we move to MS Teams

I'm starting to explore MS Teams as a workaround to compensate for the discussion functionality with SS.  I don't really need the hassle of onboarding Teams although I'm feeling the pressure from colleagues to do something to help our flow further.

Are SS ready to beta the advance discussion functionality that has been much talked about or do I need to look elsewhere for a 'discussion' fix?

if any SS users can help me understand their current practice for the use of discussions then I'd appreciate any input.

We're planning to enhance comments with tagging and reply notifications in the first half of 2018.

We'd love to hear what you are looking for when you refer to "advanced discussion functionality" and how you plan to use it. We'll incorporate this feedback as we design the new features.

Is there an update on this?  I am trialing smartsheet and very eager to hear about improvements to in app communications.
