I would like to ask people to remove/shorten their signatures when they post/answer a question. Especially those that post/answer with one line of text and have a 30 line signature that repeats over and over again for each post/answer.

Thanks for the feedback! It's actually possible to hide forum signatures - you can do so by clicking your account icon, selecting Account & Privacy Settings, then selecting Signature Settings on the right hand side and checking the box for "Hide signatures always":
