We have AppSheet integrated with Smartsheet as our User Interface in the field for use in inspections.
We like AppSheet as it displays and presents data better, and uses Smartsheet's sheet as source.
However, as of around Monday 1/September, we noticed that we no longer can "upload" images using AppSheet and save them directly to a cell in Smartsheet.
For example, we would either take a picture or upload an image through AppSheet, and this would be entered directly into Smartsheet in the corresponding cell:
However, this is now no longer the case. it only uploads, and saves it as an attachment to the row. Thus, I can no longer see the image in AppSheet and refer to it:
I also can't replace it. It simply just "adds" to rows as attachments.
This is a major downgrade on the functionality we had.
Reason - The image goes into data mapping at Document builder, to produce a deliverable (PDF) that is customer facing.
We actually built our inspection systems over the past two years based on this integration working with AppSheet and Smartsheet as "it simply worked" really well. Take a picture in AppSheet, and voila it shows up in Smartsheet in a cell and with automations, you have a good looking PDF.
I reached out to colleagues in other businesses that used the same functionality, and it seems they have the same issue, starting around the same time.
I wanted to reach out to the community, and see if you also have this issue?
I have lodged support tickets in both Smartsheet and in AppSheet, both blame each other and say it is "them" who must have changed something in their interface / process, and to reach out to their support team. :(
As I'm stuck between the two, was hoping:
- If any one has heard of this issue and knows how to resolve, please share your findings and steps to get this up and running?
- Knows a similar "AppSheet" like platform that also integrates with Smartsheet, that would be quick to setup and give me the same functionality that you might recommend?
