Board View Performance & Feature Limitations

Hi Smartsheet Team,

I’d like to highlight some issues we’ve been facing with the Board View compared to the Card View:

1. Performance Issues
   • The Board View is extremely slow compared to the Card View.
   • Although we prefer the Board View for its features (outlined below), the performance is so poor that we are often forced to switch back to Card View.
2. Why Board View is Better
   • It allows us to hide fields in Grid View, which then remain hidden in Board View — this is very useful.
   • The UI is great, especially the ability to see child cards nested under parent cards.
3. Limitations Forcing Us Back to Card View
   • Due to performance issues, we end up using Card View.
   • However, Card View does not respect hidden fields from Grid View, which is frustrating and feels like an inconsistent behavior.
4. Feature Request: Parent–Child Field Separation
   • It would be very useful if parent and child cards could have separate fields.
   • Right now, both share the same set of fields, which limits flexibility.

In summary:
Board View has the right features but is unusable because of performance issues. Card View is faster, but lacks the ability to hide fields and separate parent/child card structures. If the development team could optimize Board View and add field separation for parent/child cards, it would significantly improve usability.

Yes I fully agree! The board view has lots of good features but performance means that it is all useless!
