Global Report - Change filter permission

I have a Program Report (dynamic report) where I would like a user to be able to change the filters.

They are the owner and admin of this report; however, they are only editor in the source sheet that makes up this report.

They seem to be having issues changing the filters. Do they also need to be admin to the source sheets for them to be able to change the filters?

If so, is there a workaround for this?

I tested this by giving admin access to an account who only has editor permissions on the source sheet.

It looks like I am able to change the date and the condition field but I am unable to select the column field.

Hi @Marisha90!

Great question! The way filters work depends on whether you’re working at the sheet level or the report level, and what permissions you have in each place.

At the sheet level, there are two types of filters:

Unnamed filters: Anyone with access to the sheet can create and use an unnamed filter, but there can only be one at a time.
Named filters: Editors or higher can create and save filters for later, but only Sheet Admins and Owners can share those filters with others.

At the report level, only Admins and the Owner can create, edit, or manage filters. Editors or Viewers can use existing filters once they’re applied but won’t be able to change them. You can read more here: Create filter criteria in Report Builder.

If your colleague already has Admin access on the report but still runs into trouble, I’d recommend:

Removing and recreating the filter.
Refreshing the report tab.
When working with complex filters, try adding and removing conditions one at a time, refreshing between changes to confirm the results.
- If you see more results than expected, try switching OR to AND.
- If you see fewer results than expected, try switching AND to OR.

If the problem continues after checking permissions and trying these steps, the best next step is to reach out to our Support Team so they can take a closer look in a private channel.

So it sounds like my user needs to be Admin or Owner of the source sheets to change the filters.

They are Admin on the report already. They are not admin on the source sheets that make up this report however.

My confusion comes from the fact that they were not always admin to ALL source sheets that make up this report its just been recently where their permission has been changed to editor on those sheets.

Is there a workaround - ideally I wouldn't want to give them admin permission to the source sheets, but I would still like them to be able to change or add filters to their report.
