Question About “=[]#” Formula in Smartsheet Template

Hello,

Our team is reviewing one of Smartsheet’s templates to manage marketing campaigns. The template includes multiple sheets, reports, and a dashboard. However, in the Plan sheet, there’s a column formula that reads:

=[Campaign Name]#

I’m trying to understand what this formula is doing. There isn’t a column named Campaign Name within this sheet, so it seems like it may be a cross-sheet reference, but I’m not entirely sure.

From my research, it sounds like this type of formula might be a system-generated reference used in Smartsheet templates, not something a user would typically create when building a portfolio from scratch. Could you confirm what this formula represents and whether it’s something we should leave in place or update?

Hi Ryan,

Looks like the formula is referencing a field in the Sheet Summary. If you go to the menu on the right side of the screen and select the Sheet Summary icon, you should find what you're looking for.

These reference a column in the sheet:

[Column Name]1

[Column Name]@row

[Column Name]:[Column Name]

This is the only way to reference a sheet summary field:

[Sheet Summary Field]#

And this is referencing a range within a different sheet:

{Range Name}
