Extracting emails from a mixed contacts column

Hello Smartsheet Community,

I'm trying to extract email address from contacts column in my smartsheet, but I am unable to do that.

i tried using basic string functions funcitons such as find, trim etc to extract the email part between < > but I am encountering errors.

can someone help me with a working formula to extract emails email from this column

@Naeem Ejaz Please check your source. Smartsheet does not have a TEXT function. The email address flanked by <> is also not accessible in a contact column. It is only available if you first enter the contacts into a contact column and then convert the column to a text/number type.

@Abdul Samad Mohammad If you want this to be automatic, you will need to leverage the API, the premium add-on Bridge, or some other similar third party app. There is no way to use a formula to extract an email address from a contact in a contact type column unless the email address is what is already present.

In certain use cases, you can create a "master list" of all names in one column and their emails in another column and use a formula such as INDEX/MATCH with cross sheet references to pull the email over.

@Abdul Samad Mohammad That would be even less efficient and less scalable than the reference list. Depending on the number of different emails, you would set up potentially multiple automations with multiple conditional branches each, and you would basically have to "hard-code" every possible email address in.
