I am always trying to advance my skills and so, being the unapologetic Smartsheet buff that I am, I now pay for my own personal Smartsheet account to play around and practice my skills on personal projects. In my heart I would like to someday live somewhere else and to help me determine where…. I built a Smartsheet. Using formulas and conditional formatting I rank the data I collect on each city and then report it out in what I call my color map, with an overall rank based on the rankings of the other categories.

I rather enjoy the idea that the columns were created in order of importance and that you rank "Snake Population" above "Cost of Living", lol! :) I'm definitely curious about the formula you used in Overall Rank - from a purely technical point of view, avoiding tie values in something like this is often a tiny bit tricky.

My formula there is actually very simple, it reads off of a helper column in the sheet that totals the ranks into a score and then ranks based on the lowest value. So the formula reads something like =RANKEQ([Overall Score]@row, [Overall Score]:[Overall Score], 1). Each of the rank columns is similar but based on the data in the sheet, and amended to sort accordingly (1 or 0 indicating ascending or descending order).

And yes…. snake population is important. Lol phobias are real yall! Although, maybe I'll concede and rethink if cost of living should be more important.

I think I could thrive in either Austin or Orlando.

I have noticed that some of my categories return the same rank because the data is the same. (If multiple cities both have a 0 inch annual snowfall, their score would calculate the same). I haven't quiet come up with other criteria to adjust those scores, thus, fixing the ranking system. I suppose it's not the worse thing in the world to be tied for 1st place though.
