Hello! We are a Graphic Production facility and use Smartsheet to track projects and their graphics from conception to completion. Each project has a workspace that is created with multiple matrices and we use a 'Production' matrix to keep track of all graphic items we are to produce. Our pain points currently have to do with the inability to accurately and timely track each item through production and packaging.
Currently, our production team is manually marking each 'stage' of production as complete using check boxes for the department. For example, once an item is printed, the operator finds that project's matrix, searches for the item, and then checks the box in the 'Printed' column. The item will then go to Finishing and that operator does the same in the 'Finished' column when complete. When printing hundreds of items a day, this takes a significant amount of valuable time and it is not efficient for the operators to stop after each item to physically search and mark each item.
We will definitely be moving to an inline QR generator to create a code for each item based on a unique ID. That code, along with all other pertinent item data, will be pulled into a 'layout' via Document Generator for the Production Operators to print. This physical sheet will be kept with the printed item for documenting each step and quality checking purpose.
Knowing that the QR code on each layout can direct the user to the correct row for the item, I would like to know if it is possible to have a standardized 'column' code that the user can scan to complete a secondary action. For example, the Operator will scan the item QR on the layout and it will open the correct matrix/row in Smartsheet. They will then scan a different code that will identify the cell on that row in the 'Printed' column and mark it as 'True'. The second code will not be specific to each item but simply mark the 'Printed' cell complete on whatever row has been selected. There would be a different barcode for 'Finished' and 'Quality Checked', etc…
Any help here is greatly appreciated!
