We're officially wrapping up the year, and after reading about all of your great achievements on Smartsheet last month—from certifications to creating impactful solutions—I feel like a round of applause is in order for our talented Community. 👏👏👏

Now, to celebrate our final Question of the Month for 2025, let's get creative! This is your chance to earn a badge while having fun and getting to know your peers.

If you could create a new holiday, what would it be?

I’m so curious about this one. 👀 What is the name of your holiday, what specific event, person, or idea would you celebrate, and when would it happen on the calendar?

If I could create a new holiday it would be either:

"Gratitude Day" would involve community service or any going out of your way to help others.

"Digital Detox Day" would encourage people to disconnect from screens and spend time outdoors or with loved ones.

I don't have a specific date for when they would appear on the calendar.

If you could create a new holiday, what would it be?

So often, we are in jobs that we have leaders that have been placed in their roles without having never done the roles they below them. This causes hardship on the team members they lead because often times the leaders can pile on too much work or expect things out of the team members that are not within their scope of support. There should be a holiday where leaders need to do the roles of the team members they lead for at least one day. Each year, they can choose a different role, so they are learning different team members' roles beneath them. This will help them manager/employee relationship as well as the company as well. The team member will feel more appreciated in the long run.

I love the idea of a Digital Detox Day, but more than once a year. Maybe monthly?

I recently moved and was fortunate to find a home with 2 "living rooms". We designated one as the "living room" which has the tv and whatnot. The other we call the "family room". There is no tv, phones get put on silent and set off to the side, no laptops, etc., but music is definitely allowed. We spend a ton of time now playing board and card games together, and it has had nothing but positive impact on the whole family.

Digital Detox on a regular basis is a very awesome thing, and even if it doesn't become an official "holiday", I definitely recommend it to everyone.

We have a room in our place that is also no screens, it does have a record player for old school tunes but we have never used the space for board/card games and I really like that idea. I'm thinking a big puzzle could be a great one to work on in there. Def' going to take idea - "steal with integrity" and bring it to my home.

For a serious one I would have something like an Intergenerational Connection Day, a day dedicated to bridging gaps between generations (kids, teens, adults, elders) through shared activities, storytelling, and skill-swaps. This would be great for preserving cross-generational experience and wisdom. There would be activities like:

Schools partnering with care homes and community groups
Workplaces hosting family-friendly “skills exchange” sessions
People recording family stories or oral histories
Teens teach tech; elders teach life experience

For a less serious idea and not an original idea of mine, I decided to ask AI (after switching on a certain personality style). This is what it came up with and I'm not entirely opposed to it.

International “It’s Not That Deep” Day

Observed: Annually. On the first Monday after someone overreacts on the internet (so… basically the first Monday of the year!).

Purpose

A global reset button for when humanity needs to collectively chill, stop catastrophizing emails that begin with “per my last message,” and remind ourselves that not every inconvenience is a conspiracy against our personal happiness.

Official Food

Leftovers. Because we’re not stressing ourselves out cooking on a holiday meant to stop stress.

We listen to a lot of vinyl as well!

We go "round robin" taking turns who picks which game we play. We then play at least two rounds before switching unless the next person chooses to continue playing the same game. Lately we have been playing a lot of "Go Fish" and "What Do You Meme". Haha. At the end of the week, we will often just sit around and take turns asking questions that everyone has to answer such as

"What was your favorite dinner this week?"

"What is something new you learned this week?"

"What was the funniest thing that happened this week?"

"Who or what are you grateful for and why?"

"What is something you did to help someone this week?"

It is easy to get lost in the negative, so we keep all of our questions positive. It really helps everyone remain grateful of the positive even if it has been a rough week, and it always ends with a lot of laughter and fond memories. Our 10 year old initially bucked against it with a lot of "I don't know" or very generic responses, but even she has grown to love it. Hahaha.

We have even noticed a difference when we have guests over and everyone hangs out there instead of in the tv room.

In short, the "Family Room" has become "The Family" room, and it was one of the absolute best decisions we ever made.

My new Holiday would be "Happy Day"….It would be once a year and on that day, you have NO negative news, or Social Media posts or comments. You could have a review of everything good that happened with in the year.

Before I go on, I LOVE the ideas above! ESPECIALLY Digital Detox Day.

If I could create a new holiday, it would be International Recipe Exchange Day.

Concept : A holiday where individuals, families, friends, and communities choose a recipe from a culture different from their own and cook it together. Each year, the recipe must be new, encouraging ongoing learning rather than repeating the same familiar dish.

Purpose: Explore a new culture through food. Learn the history or traditions behind the dish. CELEBRATE DIFFERENCES AND BREAK DOWN CULTURAL GAPS by experiencing a piece of life through another cultures cuisines.

Side Note: I would add Digital Detox to this. No phones or electronics when discussing the meal, and eating the meal. Just be present in the moment with family.

Will Duplex

I would create a holiday called Local Day where people could go out and do something locally for their community. Whether that's patronizing a local/small business, spending some time volunteering, helping out a friend or neighbor, or just going out for a walk and enjoying the area in which they live.

Life can get so busy and hectic sometimes that we forget the local, day-to-day moments that keep a neighborhood and community together.

I love sharing recipes! I just made a post in the Just For Fun about sharing recipes for the holidays! I try to make at least one new cookie or candy each year and this year I'm attempting 3 new ones. I usually make each close family member their favorite plus 1 or 2 for fun after that. I believe I'm up to 14 or 15 different kinds of cookies and candy this year 😅

Gosh is this a hard one, I do know I'd love to have a holiday around mid/late February to early May timeframe as that part of the year seems to drag on for eternity (especially those that don't have any of those holidays off from work unless you take a PTO or floating holiday type day).

Here are a few options: Read a book day, plant a seed day, cat nap day, or spring-cleaning day

My personal favorites are read a book and cat nap day (which could be combined!) where you cozy up with a good book and can take naps at any time during the day.

If I could create a new holiday, i would create "Recharge Day" - a holiday focused on stepping away from the noise, restoring balance, and giving everyone time to reset mentally and physically.
