I am having a problem with a formula. Does the COUNTIFS have a limit on the number of "logical expressions" used in a formula?

My formula below:

=COUNTIFS({Opportunity and task orders}, <>"", {2025 Opportunity Status}, OR(@cell = "8.0 - Lost", @cell = "9.0 - Client Not Selected", @cell = "5.0 Awarded Contract Vehicle", @cell = "7.0 - DNP/Cancelled", @cell - "3.1 - RFP Submitted", @cell = "5.1 - Awarded On-Call", @cell = "5.2 - Awarded Task Order"), {2025 Opportunity Bid Date}, MONTH(@cell ) = [Month Number]@row )

Hi @shannonbrynn ,

There is no issue with the number of logical expressions in your COUNTIFS formula. I noticed a small typing error: immediately after @cell , it should be @cell = "3.1 - RFP Submitted" instead of @cell - "3.1 - RFP Submitted".

Also, in the last part of your formula where you’re checking the month from the date range, I recommend adding a helper column in the target sheet to extract the month number, rather than using the Date column directly.

For example:

Month = MONTH([2025 Opportunity Bid Date]@row )

Then you can use this helper column in your formula to compare the month number.

=COUNTIFS({Opportunity and task orders}, <>"", {2025 Opportunity Status}, OR(@cell = "8.0 - Lost", @cell = "9.0 - Client Not Selected", @cell = "5.0 Awarded Contract Vehicle", @cell = "7.0 - DNP/Cancelled", @cell = "3.1 - RFP Submitted", @cell = "5.1 - Awarded On-Call", @cell = "5.2 - Awarded Task Order"), {Month}, @cell = [Month Number]@row )

The "@cell - " vs "@cell = " is the issue.

You don't need a helper column on the source sheet to extract the month though. It will work no differently other than creating an extra column and extra formula on the source sheet.

I would however recommend wrapping the MONTH function in the COUNTIFS in an IFERROR. If there is a blank cell or a cell containing a non-date type value within the range, the MONTH function will throw an error for that one cell which will in turn create an error for the entire COUNTIFS output. If you wrapt the MONTH function in an IFERROR, it will allow the COUNTIFS to skip over any invalid data types and continue the count.

=COUNTIFS(………………………………., {2025 Opportunity Bid Date}, IFERROR(MONTH(@cell), 0) = [Month Number]@row)
