I’d like to propose a formal expansion of Smartsheet’s testing protocols, specifically regarding regional rollouts and hardware norms & consideration for the Windows Desktop App.
As Smartsheet continues to grow its footprint in the AU region, there is a significant opportunity to refine the user experience for Enterprise-level Project Managers and Business Analysts. Currently, the transition from browser to Desktop App presents some challenges that suggest a need for broader testing environments.
1. Optimization for Enterprise Hardware
Most PMs and BAs in Australia operate on professional-grade setups, with 29" to 32" monitors being the enterprise standard. Currently, the Windows Desktop App feels optimised for these larger resolutions. Specifically:
- Gantt and Kanban Views: These high-density views require better scaling and window management to be effective on 29" displays & likely on smaller ones as well.
- Resolution Handling: The app currently lacks the refinement needed to leverage the screen real estate that power users rely on for complex project tracking. Something auto-scaling would be great. It just needs to be able to maximise to full screen.
2. Introduction of Regional Beta Testing
To prevent these UI hurdles in the future, I suggest introducing a robust Public or Internal Beta program specifically for regional releases. Allowing a subset of users to stress-test builds in their local environments (like the AU instance) would ensure that:
- User Experience meets expectations
- Bugs are caught before a general regional rollout.
- Regional releases follow the US roadmap more seamlessly.
3. Region-Specific Support Documentation
Finally, it would be highly beneficial if support artifacts and documentation were tagged as applicable to specific regions. This would eliminate confusion when features or fixes differ between the US and AU instances.
Smartsheet is a vital tool for our workflows. Refining the Desktop App to meet the hardware standards of the modern enterprise would be a massive win for the user community.
All the very best to the Smartsheet Teams & this Community in every corner of the world.
