How to add new metadata metrics to Metadata sheet on existing projects in a control center program

I have a Control Center program set up and understand the process for updating profile data when the update also includes adding additional data to an Intake Sheet. Update Intake Sheet > Update Blueprint > Update CC Program > Global Update for Adding new Profile Data

I am unsure of the process when there are no additions to the intake sheet. Can I still use the "Update Profile Data" global update action?

For example, I want to add a new Metadata metric for "Build Status" that will flow into the Portfolio Summary sheet. The Build Status would be added as a row within each project's Metadata sheet and link to one of the project's sheets or be a formula pulling from project sheets. How would I achieve adding this row to existing project Metadata sheets via Global Updates? So far I have only determined that this will work manually, but I feel like I could be missing something.

I don't think the Global Updates would work in the way you are thinking about it unless the column "Build Status" is added to the intake sheet and then applied via an "Add Profile Data" global update. Why not do this so as to add "Build Status" to your existing project's metadata sheets? That could be a one-time event to add the "Build Status" to all existing projects metadata sheets and other assets. And, if on a go forward basis you don't want the "Build Status" column on the intake sheet but you DO want a field on the metadata sheet for "Build Status" you can then add it to the metadata sheet in the template set and on a go forward basis it will be included in the metadata sheet…though not linked to any value from the intake sheet…since the column will have been removed….it sounds lik you want this to be a manual entry on the metadata sheet anyway?

I do not want this on the intake sheet at all, as the data is controlled at the project level and will change frequently throughout the project. It sounds like you're confirming my assumption the the global update "Add Profile Data" action is ONLY used when adding data to intake sheet + metadata + portfolio summary (blueprint summary) sheets.

I do want this datapoint to be on the Metadata sheet, and then I want that to connect to the Portfolio Summary sheet (Blueprint Summary).

What I'm not sure about is how I would add this one additional row to the Metadata sheet. Any guidance? In the past I've only done this manually by adding a row, inserting formula linking to source sheet, as I'm not well versed in global updates yet. I'm wondering if there is a better way through global updates?

sarahm6 - Bridge could do this though I don't know if you have access to that tool. Otherwise, perhaps you could consider using the global update of "Modify Existing Column"

add new field to your template Metadata sheet
run a global update of "modify existing column"
walk through the global update screens and when you get to the "modify existing column" screen select the column from your metadata sheet where "Build Status" is.
you can uncheck the "change column properties" button but CHECK the box for "change column cell data"
then on the right of the same screen, *pick a value from list" and select the "Build Status" row.
Continue to step through the global update screens.

Does that get you any closer?
