conditional automatic dating

Hello all!

Couple things in one here I am needing assistance on developing my guess is a true/false formula to achieve desired results as follows.

1. when a specific task category is selected the submit date auto populates to today's date

2. once the submit date is populated, exp. return date column auto populates to a specific future date depending on which task is selected. (ex. 1 week out for RFI, 10 days out for detailing, and 2 weeks out for submittals)

my issue is making all 3 happen in a single column.

The first part can be accomplished using a Record a Date automation.

Trigger is when the Task Category changes to any value.

Condition is when Task Category is not blank.

Action is Record a Date into the Submit Date column.

The second bit can be accomplished a number of ways. If you only have a few tasks, you can use a nested IF.

=[Submit Date]@row + IF([Task Category]@row = "RFI", 7, IF([Task Category]@row = "Detailing", 10, 14))

If you have more than a few, I would suggest a second sheet that simply has the task categories listed in one column and the number of days in the next column then using an INDEX/MATCH with {Cross Sheet References} to pull the number of days from the reference table sheet based on the task selection.
