Hello Community,
We've been busy! Over the past quarter, we've shipped a wave of table view updates — not just to close the gap with grid view, but to push past it: smarter work management, better collaboration, and stronger performance at scale.
Here's what's new this year…(Missed the last batch of enhancements? Catch up here. Want the full feature breakdown? Download the following resource.)
File menu operations
The File menu is now in table view. Import, share, duplicate, export, delete, send as attachment, view sheet details, and view activity log are all available in one dropdown menu next to the sheet name. Print and save as template are on the way.
Formula power
Cell-level formula editor
Edit formulas right in the cell. The editor expands as you type, so you've got room to review and troubleshoot. Add or edit sheet references on the cell surface, or seamlessly switch to the formula editor panel whenever you want.
Formula History
Formula errors happen to the best of us! This new feature makes it fast and easy to troubleshoot formulas and review past syntax. Simply right-click any cell, select Cell History, and view its full formula history.
Cross-sheet formula references
With cross-sheet references, you can now run formulas that consolidate data, calculate key metrics, generate portfolio-level roll-ups, and more, across multiple sheets, making it easier than ever to manage complex projects.
Your workspace, your way
Vertical grid lines settings
You can now toggle vertical grid lines on or off in table view — so if you want that classic column-separated look, you’ve got it. Or, if you prefer a cleaner canvas, just hide the vertical grid lines. Your sheet, your call!
To find the setting, viewers and commenters can navigate to the toggle between the Requests and Forms icons in the top toolbar. Editors and above must first select the Format icon in the top toolbar, and then the vertical grid lines toggle on the far right.
Full screen toggle
Hide the top and left rails to maximize your working area. Click again to bring them back.
Custom row action indicators
Sheet admins can now show or hide row indicators — comments, attachments, requests, and more — individually or all at once to keep the workspace cleaner, based on their preferences.
Increased table density
We heard you. We've trimmed the horizontal padding and cell spacing so you can see more rows and columns at a glance — no scrolling or resizing required. (See our before and after below.)
Resize freeze pane
Freeze the columns you need, then drag to the width you want. Adjustments made in grid view carry over to table view automatically.
Editing and formatting
Clear format and format painter
Two essential features are now live: the format painter to copy formatting between cells, and the clear format to remove formatting without affecting the underlying data. Both are now available under the Format toolbar.
Paste special
Choose exactly what carries over when you paste — values, formats, or both. Right-select your destination cell, select Paste special, and pick your preferred option.
Collaboration and context
Attachments in conversations
It’s now possible to add attachments to your conversations in table view. Add them via URL or computer upload to add additional conversational context and move work forward faster.
Row properties
Easily access detailed information about each row, including its link, creator, sheet, and more, making it even easier to reference and understand your data. To open this modal, simply right-select the row number or open the row’s options (three-dot) menu, then select Row properties.
Workload tracking
Get instant visibility into team workloads in table view! To get started, enable the feature by clicking Workloads in the toolbar of your sheet or through the settings panel. Once enabled, simply click Workloads at the top of the sheet to open the workload schedule and start identifying and rebalancing allocation at a glance. Optimizing capacity and keeping delivery on track has never been easier!
That’s not all! Table view also has a smoother scroll bar, "send row" and "print" in the row context menu, cut/copy/paste of parent rows with their children intact, bulk row and column insertion, and expanded conditional formatting.
Stay tuned for more table view enhancements
There’s plenty more to come as we continue to add and improve existing grid-view features in table view. Cell linking, in-cell images, sheet summary, and highlight changes are all in the pipeline. So is net-new functionality you won't find in grid view: Smart Columns, static filters for linked dropdown columns, and table view reports.
Have feedback on what's already shipped? Drop it in the comments, and we’ll get back to you!
