Hello. I am trying to combine contact list A with the Created By column into one Contact Helper column to use in order to restrict the user view in Dynamic View.
Here is my problem. Contact List A is filled in from a form submission. The user is supposed to enter or select their email address along with the emails of any other person(s) responsible for the project. However, my coworkers are terrible about actually entering their email address when completing the form and usually just type their name. I put a note in bright red above that question on the form, but of course they ignore it and I don't see a way to have Smartsheet automatically connect a name with a contact.
In order to not have to constantly check if their email address was entered on the form, I had the idea of creating a helper column that would combine Contact List A with the Created By column, since the Created By column automatically gathers their email when they complete the form. This way, at the very least, I would have the email address of the person who submitted the form and then I can have Dynamic View use that helper column as the restricted user view. Unfortunately, I will still have to check on this every so often in case there are multiple contacts on one project, but at least one person would have access.
However, I used a simple formula to combine Contact List A and Created By into the Contact Helper column and instead of pulling the email addresses from Contact List A, it is only pulling the person's name.
Is there a way to have it pull the email address from the column instead of the person's name?
Or if you have any other suggestions on how to go about this please let me know.
**Important information: due to a merger, most of our employees currently have two email addresses with our Smartsheet licensing being under only one domain. Even though I tell them which domain to use when filling out the form, they of course don't.
