I have recently started experimenting with the Power BI integration using the Smartsheet app: Smartsheet Power BI App
In our EPMO, Smartsheet is our primary PPM tool, and I am now pulling that data into Power BI to explore more advanced analytics and drill-down reporting. I am interested in where Power BI still adds the most value or what is best to keep in Smartsheet (bi-directional reports that can be updated).
What I am exploring:
- Portfolio-level dashboards with drill-down from program → project → task
- Financial reporting views across multiple years (for example FY 2026–27 onward)
- Cross-sheet data modelling to bring together project, financial, and risk data
- Executive dashboards with stronger storytelling and visualisation
What I would like to learn from others:
- What are your main Power BI use cases when working with Smartsheet data?
- Where does Power BI add value beyond Smartsheet dashboards for you?
- Any lessons learned (data structure, refresh performance, modelling challenges)?
- Examples of effective dashboards for executive reporting
- Building a data model in Power BI vs using direct data
- Access controls on Power BI and publishing (SharePoint / intranets)
