Any advice on how you guys save your backups to reduce the size it takes on your servers?

We just save the backup (as it's an exported Excel file). If we start running in to space issues, we can zip/compress the folders. The other option would be to do a file "clean-up" about every six months. If you haven't had to recover anything in that time, you could archive and/or delete the older files.
