Completed date stamp formula runs when sheet is saved every time

Hi Smartsheet community,

I currently have a formula the runs when a column drop down is selected to "Completed" 

=IF(Status4 = "Completed", TODAY())

However, every time someone else saves the sheet, the formula runs again and overwrites the old stamped date.  This never happened before and I would like to know if there are any other solutions to prevent this from happening.
