Default date to today with webforms
Comments

Hi Andy, to clarify - do you mean "today" as in the day the form is being filled out/submitted, or the specific date you are viewing the sheet?
-
Hi Andy, while you can set a default date, it wont dynamically update each day. Are you looking for a timestamp of when the web form was submitted? Try using the Created (Date) System column which will automatically show a timestamp from when a row is created.
-
Hi Everyone, yes its a date stamp for when the form is submitted. Thanks Travis I will give your suggestion a go.

Looked all over for this and it seems this is not a current feature for web forms. Really would help to have this.

Hi Roger
Having used the create date i.e not having a date field on the web form it handles what I need. It only falls down when you need to create an entry that was in the past.

Andy,
I think you could modify the methodology I described here:
https://community.smartsheet.com/discussion/formula-selecting-checkbox-will-populate-completion-date
for getting today's date with a checkbox.
You'd want to add your date field with a label like "only enter the date if not today"
Hope this helps.

Thanks Craig, in my scenario this could work.
I'm logging time spent on a support call using the web form. Initially I was trying to get the date field to auto populate with the current date but this didn't work. I then opted to use the create date in the Smartsheet and not have to bother with one in the web form. This is fine but I can't edit a row and change the create date if needed (which by the way I haven't needed to do). Your suggestion could work but I'm wondering if I really need to bother changing what I have :-).
Thanks anyway.

It would be great if smart sheet have feature to set the "Today()" as default value for date column

See my post today:

I can't think of any situation where you would want the default date on a form to be the date that you created or last edited the form.
- I need the default date to be the day the form is being filled out
- I need the date field on the form to be hidden
- I need to be able to edit the date on the sheet
This seems to dictate that we either use Mr. Williams' work around or Smartsheet changes the function of the Today button when setting a default date.
