Setting a default value in a sheet

Hi Everyone ,

Is there a tip to set a default value in a sheet column ? I know it is possible to do it by a webform , but it is not my concern .

I have a drop-down list column , with 2 items : "Oui " et " Non " . How can I manage so that " Non " value is displayed in the column by default every time a new row is added .

I think that you can set a default value using a form but may not be able to in a smartsheet data sheet

It´s an old thread, but maybe this helps future generations :-)

Having to deal with the same problem I have chosen following workaround:

include the field in the webform
set the field to the default value
set the field to hidden

Thank you for the tip. I'm trying to get the Status column defaulted to 'Not Started' for any new task added to the sheet (directly in the sheet not through form). I tried the steps you suggested. However it still doesn't get the column to be defaulted. Can you please advice, what I might be missing ?

PS: The column gets the default value when a new entry submitted via form but not when directly adding a row in the sheet

I created a form, just the primary field and the status field.

included the Status field in the webform
set the field to the default value (see screenshot)
set the field to hidden (see screenshot

You can use a Workflow combined with the Change Cell Action so that when a new row is added, it changes to "Not Started".
