Predecessors (Finish to Finish & Finish to Start

I may have a basic misunderstanding & need some clarification.

I have a task #3 (the Effective Date) of a contract. Further down the project I have another task....

#20 - Purchaser obtains an updated Survey & Title Commitment. Task #20 can begin on the Effective Date (task #3).

Further down the project I have another task #24 - Review Period that also begins the day after the Effective Date and runs for 45 days.

I set the the predesessors of task #20 - Finish-Start with task #3 & Finish-Finish with task #24.

In other words I want task #20 to begin on the Effective date and to finish the same time as task #24. Why does Smartsheet show the start & finish date both as the finish date of task #24, when it should start on the Effective Date? Actually I think Finish-Start will start it the day after the Effective Date.

Like I said, I think I have a little misunderstanding of the predesessors.

I sure would appreciate a clarification.....

You can have constraint either on start or end date of Task 20, as one of the other dates will be calculated based on the duration of the task. You can set Task #20 predecessor as 3SS (that is start-to-start) so that task 20 starts on the same day as task 3 and set Task 24 predecessor as 3 so that it start the following day. Now since task 24 is 45 day task but starts one day later than task 20, you will have to align the date of task 20 to match with task 24 by setting the duration of 46 instead.(Unfortunately 24FF constraint won't work on Task 20)
