Rename sheet does not update Sheet Name (system column)
It appears that renaming a sheet is not updating the sheet name (system column) value. Can anyone confirm that renaming a sheet does not update the system column value?
Thanks, Mike

Not sure I follow!
Can you explain in more detail?

Hi Andree,
Create a sheet called "data" and add a row of misc data. Now create a report that shows you all records from the "data" sheet. Show all columns and add a column for the "sheet name" this is a system field like modified or modified by.
The sheet name should show up as "data" in your report. Now rename the "data" sheet to "data1". Does the sheet name in your report now show "data1" or does it still show as the original name. I'm finding that the sheet name is not changing when you rename the sheet
THanks, MIke

Now I follow! 😉
Happy to help!
I tested, and it works as it's supposed to, and my report's name is updated.
Strange that yours isn't.
Have you tried more than once and different sheets/reports?
If yes, and if you haven’t already, I would recommend that you reach out to the Smartsheet Support Team. Smartsheet Support Team
Let me know how it goes!

Related issue:
I create a sheet named "Data" and put records in the sheet.
I go to a dashboard and select a chart widget, then select the sheet named "Data" as the source.
I delete that widget.
I rename the sheet as "Data1". I go to the workspace where the sheet is stored and the new name is used there.
However, I go to the dashboard again and create a widget, then want to select that sheet as the data source, but here the sheet is shown as the original name "Data", not the new name.

If you take a coffee break and come back to it later, is the issue resolved? I find that there are times when there is a delay before name changes are picked up.

I am having the same issue as Mike L - I am attempting to group my report by sheet name and it is referring to the original sheet name I had prior to renaming it.
-
I'm having the same issue as Mark Barton - with the report group by tab. The sheetnames are still displaying the original name and not the edit name. if I add a sheetname column to the report it does appears correct, but not the grouping by.
Is there any updates on this?
-
I believe I am seeing similar behavior ... retesting again.
-
I am experiencing the same. I updated my Sheet names. When grouping in a Report, the Grouped sheet name heading is displaying old/original name. This is affecting my ability to group properly/in the order I need.

I hope you're well and safe!
Strange!
Try logging in/out from Smartsheet, try another browser, and try your browser in incognito/private mode.
If that doesn't change anything, and If you haven’t already, I recommend that you reach out to the Smartsheet Support Team.
I hope that helps!
Be safe and have a fantastic week!

Thanks @Andrée Starå. It seems that if I go back into the original Sheet and edit the sheet i.e. type another line in, and resave the sheet - it ticks over and the Groups accepts the renamed Sheet!

Happy to help!
Yes, that is strange.
Let me know what you find out from Smartsheet Support.
