Is it possible to trigger an alert notification ONLY if the value of a field increases?
I have a formula that counts absences for the past 6 months. A formula in another column looks at the first and when that number reaches 3, it adds an occurrence (value changes from 0 to 1). I've set up automation to notify the supervisor that the team member needs a counseling.
Since my only option for automated notifications is to trigger when that field changes, when the absences drop off (older than 6 months) the occurrence field drops by one which triggers an alert notification. I do not want this one to trigger a notification.

You would need to use either the API or a 3rd party app such as Zapier to access the cell history. At this time there is no way to access the cell history other than manually.
There may be a way to send an Update Request instead of an Alert to the person who will actually conduct the counselling. The person could then update a new column and just enter the number of occurrences that triggered the counselling in the first place. You can then use another helper column such as a checkbox type that uses a formula to compare the actual number of to the number the counselor submitted in the Update Request and check if the number is higher. Then set up additional Update Requests to send if the box is checked when the number changes.
Does that all make sense? I can visualize it, but I am not sure if I am explaining it very clearly.
