Pulling a cell via row from an external column reference

I'm wondering if it's possible to have a formula referencing an external cell by using an external column reference and a non-absolute row reference. Basically, is this {ext.column}@row possible like [column]@row is?

How would you want to use it? What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

I was trying to return an id code based on a date in one datasheet to a master sheet with id codes and their respective dates, but after looking more into MATCH/INDEX I got it all to work. Thank you though!
