I took a brain break and came back to it and realized it was as simple as changing the formula counting the Ancestors to 2!!!
Hope you have a great day Paul!!

Glad you were able to get it figured out!

@Paul Newcome i am tagging you because you seem to be the master of sequential numbering and IF statements (you've provided help in all the community posts i've seen on the matter!).
i'm trying to accomplish something that i have set up in Google Sheets but in smartsheet instead.
essentially, i need to generate a (unique) sequential asset ID but only when a column doesn't contain the word "Text".
obviously the default "auto-number" feature doesn't work for me.
i've attached a screenshot of the formula i have in Google Sheets. you can ignore everything at the beginning because what i'm having an issue with is the numbering part itself which is in the red box.
TEXT(COUNTIFS(D25:D,D25:D,ROW(D25:D),"<="&ROW(D25:D)),"00000#"))))
i've tried a few variations on what you've posted before to no avail.. let me know if you have any ideas. thanks for the help!

@Justin L I am assuming you want the numbers to be zero filled to 6 digits?

@Paul Newcome that was the plan, yes. however, it seems other folks have decided to go in a different direction and so that formula/function is no longer needed on my end. i appreciate the help anyway!
