Approval Workflow Automation - If Approved/Declined

I love this feature, however I wondered if there is a way to notify the initiator of the request for approval without having to fill in a cc'd column.

Reading some of the questions on here regarding this matter, and the fact that I can't see anything in the automation, it appears to be a work around that people are using. IF that is currently the only way, is there another automation I can use to fill the automatically fill the cc column with the name of the initiator?

For info my trigger is a column with a check box that requests approval as not all tasks follow the same process so I needed a way to allow the end user to control when and for which tasks approval is required.

I appreciate any pearls of wisdom in this matter.

Not sure I follow!

If it's triggered by checking the checkbox, we could maybe use the system column, Modified by.

Would that work/help?

Thank you so much for your quick response and suggestion.

This is a great solution, and works well.

The only slight issue I could see is if someone else modifies that row after the submission of the approval request, then the notification may go to the wrong person. I don't think this is particularly likely but if you have any suggestions as to how I could manage that, I would be grateful.

I also wondered if there is a way I could auto 'uncheck' the column used to trigger the approval request once the request is either approved or declined? I don't think automations allow you to make changes to a cell such as this?

Hi Natalie, for what purposes you would want to uncheck the box for the approval request after the fact?

On your first question, can you use the system column Created by?
