heres the thin.  in general we set projects as five working days, sure we all work weekends but in terms of setting teh critical path five working days works best.

 

problem comes when we get to teh latter stages of a project and goods are being managed through the supply chain which is a 7day a week process ie goods collected on a friday in poland for delivery into uk four days later is a monday, but teh projevct shows this wednesday because it sees for Mon-Fri working days.  transport can colect any day of the week so sometimes it works but many times it just doest and all teh dependencies are thrown out.  also goods come into our depot and then move to a customer depot and then move to a retail store and all this is a 7 day a week process.

 

is there a way round this.  it would be great to be able to set the rule by row within predecessors ie '4 days as 7 day week'.

The first issue is that this also ignores the working hours/day.

That is, for typical 8 hour & 5 days per week working schedule, a "3 day task" takes 24 hours and 3 working days.

With elapsed, it will take 1 calendar day (start at 8am, finish next day at 8 am).

Probably not what you want, exactly.

 

In that typical working schedule you can have a 1d task (8hours) that starts and ends on a Saturday or Sunday. A 2d task that starts on Saturday covers Saturday and Monday. There are other idiosyncracies too.
