I have a drop down menu on a form with the following possible responses for multiple questions:

1- Poor

2- Fair

3- Good

4- Very Good

5- Excellent

I want to create a new column that is the average calculated numerical value based on the descriptive rating. Is there a formula to collect the average number (basically, how do i find an average formula that ignores the words?)

You would need a helper column to convert each text string into a numerical value and then you could average this helper column.
